Sachet packaging material: choosing the right laminate for ORS, powders and liquids
Which sachet laminate suits your product, how sachet printing works and what to send for a quote.
Business Land Trading,

A sachet looks simple, but its material decides whether the product stays dry, the seal holds on the machine and the pack stands out on the shelf. Here is how to choose the laminate for the most common sachet products in Pakistan.
How a sachet laminate is built
Sachet material is a laminate of two or three layers, each with a job:
- Outer layer (usually PET, sometimes paper): carries the print and gives stiffness and gloss.
- Barrier layer (aluminium foil or metallised PET): keeps out moisture, oxygen and light.
- Inner layer (PE): melts to seal the sachet on the machine and is the layer in contact with the product.
Common structures compared
| Structure | Barrier | Typical products |
|---|---|---|
| PET / AL / PE | Highest: the foil blocks moisture, oxygen and light | ORS, effervescent and hygroscopic powders, pharma granules |
| PET / MET-PET / PE | Good: metallised film | Nutraceutical powders, tea, spices, snacks |
| PET / PE | Basic, and the pack can be transparent | Shampoo, liquids, gels and less sensitive products |
| Paper / AL / PE | High, with a paper look | Powders and premium or traditional brands |
Choosing by product
- ORS and other salts absorb moisture quickly, so a foil laminate (PET/AL/PE) is the safe choice.
- Protein, multivitamin and herbal powders usually run on foil or metallised laminates, depending on the shelf life you need.
- Liquids and gels need a strong PE sealing layer and seals tested for leaks.
- Spices and tea need an aroma barrier; foil or metallised film keeps the flavour in.
How sachet printing works
We print sachet rolls by rotogravure, with the ink reverse printed on the inside of the PET film so it is protected once laminated. Each colour needs its own engraved cylinder, which is a one-time cost per design. After lamination the rolls are slit to your sachet width, single or multi-lane, and wound on cores for your machine.
Matching the roll to your machine
Vertical form-fill-seal machines, multi-lane stick pack machines and four-side-seal sachet machines all run reel stock, but each needs the right width, core size, print repeat (cut-off length) and eye-mark position. Share your machine model and sachet drawing so the rolls run without adjustment.
What to send for a quote
- Product and fill weight or volume
- Sachet size (width × length) and seal type
- Machine model and number of lanes
- Artwork with colours, or your current sachet
- Monthly quantity
Send these on WhatsApp and we will recommend the laminate and quote for printed sachet rolls.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best packaging material for ORS sachets?
A foil laminate such as PET/AL/PE, because ORS absorbs moisture. The aluminium layer blocks moisture, oxygen and light.
